Formula E - Just A Tacky Gimmick?

Formula E has very much dedicated its audience to younger racing fans between the ages (I would say of) 10-20, but this has left them with a problem.
Earlier this year Formula E revolutionized its car that all teams were required to use, making it much faster and less dependant on the aerodynamic grip. In my opinion I think this was a great idea, however, they also introduced an "Attack mode" where the drivers could potentially run wide at certain corners for a couple of times in the race and have an advantage of an unlocked extra power mode that could be used for defending or overtaking. This takes artificial solutions in racing to a whole new level for me. The problem now is because of the gimmicks like "Attack Mode", True motorsport fanatics struggle to get excited about this all-electric series, but this isn't the only gimmick that the sport's owners use...
To try and induce fan involvement, a vote was given to Fans as to who should receive an extra power boost called the "Fanboost". To me this is even worse than Formula One's "Driver of the day" vote because in my opinion, I feel like fans should be able to have an impact on decisions made for the future of the sport but should not be given the power to give any particular driver an advantage because this then becomes a popularity contest which is not what racing should be about.
Finally, If you have ever watched a FE race, you will know that it can be pretty hectic with drivers purposely crashing into each other to gain an advantage on the tight street tracks. I feel that if drivers are that crazy and there is little consequence for destroying another drivers car then Formula E is just Mario Kart. Not racing.
